2. Learning Goals: Geocaching in Education

Learning goals differ from teaching goals by specifically engaging the students mind, intellect, and personal experiences using what they already know and are capable of doing.
  1. develop technology skills to create an official geocache container holding a trackable
  2. develop skills using longitude and latitude to determine an appropriate safe location in which to place the geocaching container
  3. gain understanding to successfully register trackable items on the Geocaching.com website 
  4. successfully track an item to its destination using the tracking number activation code stamped on the items trackable page on Geocaching.com 
  5. gain an enhanced understanding of the Geocaching process
ISTE-NETS-S 3: Research and Information FluencyStudents apply digital tools to gather, evaluate, and use information. Students:
  • plan strategies to guide inquiry
  • locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media
  • evaluate and select information sources and digital tools based on the appropriateness to specific tasks
  • process data and report results
ISTE-NETS-S 4: Critical Thinking, Problem-Solving & Decision-MakingStudents use critical thinking skills to plan and conduct research, manage projects, solve problems and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. Students:

  • collect and analyze data to identify solutions and/or make informed decisions
  • use multiple processes and diverse perspectives to explore alternative solutions
ISTE-NETS-S 5: Digital CitizenshipStudents understand human, cultural, and societal issues related to technology and practice legal and ethical behavior. Students:
  • advocate and practice safe, legal, and responsible use of information and technology
  • exhibit a positive attitude toward using technology that supports collaboration, learning, and productivity
  • demonstrate personal responsibility for lifelong learning
  • exhibit leadership skills necessary for digital citizenship
